Our trainer gave me some bad news today. P Terry Melton is not responding to treatment and it will probably be next weekend before he can pitch.

P Lonny Tomski (27-R) was optioned to Vancouver (AAA) and P Tony Kelley (26-R) was recalled to Portland. To make room for him on the 40 man roster, we transferred CF Buddy French to the 60 day DL.

Whichever of the two new pitchers, Kelley or Tim Carrol (26-R) pitches better will stay when Terry Melton is ready to pitch again and the other will go back to Vancouver. If they both stink, we will try someone else.

With 2 outs, Tony Baez doubles. Otis Smith then lines one to right over Dale Ainsworth's head, but he runs back and makes an unbelievable catch to save a run!

Top of the Seventh:
We let P Ron Wolf bat because our Bullpen is all gassed from yesterday and he strikes out. With 2 outs, Dale Ainsworth draws a walk. 1-2 pitch to Jeff Schottler and he triples to right center, scoring Ainsworth! 2 to 1, Beavers! Gary Long grounds out to second to end the inning.

Top of the 9th:
With 1 out, Jeff Schottler singles. Gary Long grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6. Jeff Austin doubles over the center fielder's head and Long scores! 3 to 1, Beavers!

Bottom of the Ninth:
Roger Rojas leads off with a walk. Tony Baez hits a fly ball to right, but Dale Ainsworth drops it....E-9... Call to the worn out Bullpen: LHP Jerry Wilhelm (32--L). They send up PH Butch Nelson (25-R). He flies out to deep left. 1 out. Another pinch-hitter: Ernie McGuire (34-R). Call to the Bullpen: Antoine Redd (31-R), because he is the least gassed of the bunch. Perry Templet (23-L) comes in to play center on a double switch and Jeff Schottler moves to left. McGuire flies out to deep right and Rojas moves to 3rd. 2 out. Pinch-hitter: Pedro de Jesus (25-L), hitting .345 on the season (10 for 29). He grounds out to 1st, unassisted, and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Beavers!
