The Rangers return home for a weekend series against the California Angels that begins on Friday the 13th. The Angels rank dead last in the league in runs scored, batting average and OBP. The league's worst offense faces the league's worst pitching.

In the top of the first, Maddox injured his elbow catching a Pinson fly ball and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Tom Grieve. Oliver gave the Angels the lead with an RBI double. The Angels went on to load the bases with two out but Hand struck out McCraw to retire the side.

Rain began to fall in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second, the Rangers tied it up, thanks to an RBI single by Sudakis.

In the top of the third, the game was stopped for a 16 minute rain delay.

In the bottom of the third, Epstein gave the Rangers the lead with a solo home run. Harrah with a run-scoring single added to the lead.

After three: Texas 3 California 1.

In the top of the fifth, the Angels loaded the bases with one out. Spencer then beat out the 6-4-3 try to bring home Alomar.

After six: Texas 3 California 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Grieve knocked in one with a triple. Grieve then scored on a Johnson two-bagger. It was the Rangers 10th hit of the game.

Hand started off the top of the eighth by striking out Robinson for his 10th K of the season. Berry hit a two out single for the Angels 10th hit of the game. Steve Foucault then replaced Hand on the mound for the Rangers. McCraw singled but Berry was thrown out by Grieve as he tried to move from first to third on the play and that retired the side.

The Angels loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the ninth. Pinson struck out and there was one down. Then Oliver went down on strikes and there were two out. Robinson then grounded to third but a bad throw by Madlock allowed a run to score. But Spencer grounded out to short to end the game as Foucault injured his shoulder on the play.

Final score: Texas 5 California 3.
