The Chicago Cubs have gotten off to a fast start in this 18 game home stand, posting a 5-1 mark with four shutouts. Today, on Friday the 13th, they begin a four game series against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Cubs lead the season series 4-3.

The St Louis Cardinals traded. 2B Pug Bennett to the Boston Americans for 2B Chet Chadbourne and CF Rabbit Robinson.

In the top of the first, Gleason injured his back while hitting a single and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Paul Sentell. The Phillies would load the bases with nobody out. Titus would ground to first to bring in the game's first run. Bransfield would do the same to get his own RBI.

In the top of the fourth, Evers misplayed a Ward grounder, allowing Bransfield to score from third. The Phillies would go on to load the bases with one out. Thomas beat out the 6-4-3, allowing Dooin to score from third.

In the top of the fifth, Beebe walked Titus to issue his 60th free pass of the season. Magee would later score on a Doolan groundout to short.

In the bottom of the sixth, Beebe laid down a successful bunt to move Noonan to second and up his sacrifice hit total to 10. Evers then brought Noonan home with a single.

After six: Philadelphia 5 Chicago 1.

The final three innings went quietly.
