The Cubs will try to finish off a five game sweep of the Boston Beaneaters in Chicago today. The Cubs have won seven in a row. The Beaneaters have lost six straight.

The Cubs placed SS Joe Tinker on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 11.

In the bottom of the first, Schulte got a two-run double.

After three: Chicago 2 Boston 0.

In the top of the fourth, Howard scored on a Strobel groundout to short. A run-scoring single by Needham tied it up.

In the top of the sixth, Needham singled to center for his 50th hit of the season. But he would be stranded at second.

After six: Boston 2 Chicago 2.

In the top of the ninth, Tenney scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Bates. Dolan then knocked in one with a single. Then it was Strobel with an RBI single. The Beaneaters would go on to load the bases with two out before Bridwell lined out to right to retire the side.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out and then Slagle scored on a wild pitch. But Hofman would ground out to short to end the game.

Final score: Boston 5 Chicago 3.
