Today is the fourth game of the series in Chicago between the Cubs and the Beaneaters. The Cubs have won six straight and allowed a grand total of two runs in those six games. The Beaneaters have only scored one run in their last five games combined and have not scored a run in their last 39 innings.

In the bottom of the first, Pfeffer walked his 80th batter of the season when he issued a two out base on balls to Chance. But Chance would be stranded at second.

In the bottom of the second, the Cubs scored on an RBI single by Tinker. Tinker later crossed the plate thanks to a run-scoring single by Evers. The Cubs then loaded the bases with two out but Chance struck out to end the inning.

The Cubs have now gone 43 innings without having given up a run.

After three: Chicago 2 Boston 0.

In the top of the fifth, Needham scored on a passed ball and the Cubs shutout streak ended at 44 innings.

In the bottom of the fifth, Chance scored on a successful squeeze but by Steinfeldt. Steinfeldt was then thrown out at second as Needham recorded his 60th caught base stealer of the season.

In the top of the sixth, a sacrifice fly by Howard scored Brain.

After six: Chicago 3 Boston 2.

In the top of the seventh, Reulbach recorded strikeout number 100 of the season, fanning Needham to start the inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Chance stole his 30th base of the season. The Cubs went on to load the bases with nobody out. Slagle grounded back to the pitcher and Chance was forced at home for the first out. Tinker brought in a pair with a double but injured his leg sliding into second and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Bull Smith. Kling added an RBI single. A run-scoring double by Evers put his season RBI total to 25. Hofman was then hit by a pitch to load the bases with two out. Chance drew a walk and Kling crossed the plate. Schulte then flew out to center to finally end the five run inning.

In the top of the eighth, Reulbach struck out the side after giving up a leadoff single.

In the top of the ninth, the Beaneaters added a run on a Smith throwing error.

The Cubs would get the final out however to record their seventh straight win.

Final score: Chicago 8 Boston 3.
