05/21/1973 - Giants Top Astros in Extras
The Houston Astros got a sterling performance from left fielder Bob Watson, but the Giants still prevailed, 9-7. Watson was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. The Giants bumped their record to 22-20 with this latest triumph.
Gary Thomasson's hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a curveball from Jim Crawford for a 2-run double. It put San Francisco in front, 9-7.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Thomasson, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
Kingman took RHP Don Wilson deep on a full count fastball that caught too much of the plate.
