04/29/1973 - Kingman Excels in San Francisco Win
Getting a good performance from first baseman Dave Kingman, the San Francisco Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 8-1. Kingman was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Giants. Jim Willoughby picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-0. He struck out 1 in 8 innings. The win gives San Francisco a record of 12-11.
Kingman had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the second inning, when he hit a bases-clearing double. He also added a solo HR off RHP Bob Gibson later in the game. The Giants went on to win.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Charlie Fox said.
