In the top of the third, a Robinson sacrifice fly put the Angels on the board. Carty injured himself making the catch and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Larry Biittner.

In the top of the seventh, Oliver singled for the Angels 10th hit of the game. A walk loaded the bases with nobody out and Jim Merritt took the mound for the Rangers. Spencer popped into the infield fly rule for the first out. But then it was Berry with a two-run single.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Madlock flew out to right without bringing home a run. One away. Epstein grounded to second to bring home a run. Johnson then grounded to short to end the game.

Final score: California 5 Texas 1.
