Favor L/R and Specialists

I'm looking for some assistance in getting better results from my manager's handling of the pitching staff in simulated (non-played) games. Let's take a look at a recent game:

Strategy Settings
Innings 7 and 8
  • Favor L/R Matchup set to 6/10 (prefer)
  • Hook Relievers set to 6/10 (slow)
  • I'll also indicate the role each pitcher has listed on my staff page once they are brought in

Top of the 8th
R SP on the mound. Taken out by a lefty (specialist against lefties) to start the inning with a lefty coming up, and 2 of the first 3 being lefties. Cool. Works for me.

Triple to lead off the inning.

Intentional walk to the righty batter. Cool.

LHB double. 2 runs score.

LHB intentional walk.

PITCHING CHANGE: My other lefty reliever, "middle relief, use more often."

LHB strikes out. 1 out.

Walk to the switch hitter. Bases loaded.

Brings in a righty specialist against righties...to face 2 lefties in a row.

Line out. 2 outs. No runs.

Walk. Run scores.

RHB comes up...we bring in another righty arm, "middle relief, use normal."

Strikeout. Inning over.

My biggest grip is the handling of that first righty pitcher. He's specifically given instructions to be a righty specialist only, yet is brought in to face two lefties. He's then taken out against the righty.

How on earth can we counter something like this? Is it handled the same way in OOTP 16?

Thanks!
