Pythagorean record is a crude instrument. Meaning that it's an accurate reflection of really bad teams and really good teams when you are talking about substantial run differentials over long stretches of time. But, for .500-ish teams, it can be quite noisy and not necessarily predictive for the reasons already stated above.
