June 1 Player Development Report/Draft Pool

Had a rough month with player development... this might make the upcoming draft a little harder to prepare for.

SP Scott Smith (22) saw improvement in his control. His current rating dropped from 2.5 to 0.5, but his potential went up from 2.5 to 3.0

CL Dalton Whitaker (26) had a little increase in his movement 8 to 9, and his overall went from 4.0 to 4.5

CL Jack Clow (29) Saw his control potential drop from 14 to 13 and took an overall potential drop from 5.0 to 4.5

*** note with the drop to Clow it might be time to shop him around. He is having a good season and might be able to get something for him now (before its too late)

SP Tsuneo Sato (26) got a bump in Control 11 to 12 and has began to throw the ball harder, moving into the 95-97 range. His potential went up as well 2.5 to 3.0

SP Karl Armstrong (20) had a mixed month, as his current stuff went from 11 to 12, but by getting more "stuff" he lost some control, as his potential dropped from 14 to 13. But along with that he is throwing the ball harder 94-96 and he saw an overall rating improvement from 3.5 to 4.0

2B Jesus Rivera (21) a big time prospect, got a bump in his overall contact going from 9 to 10, this lead to an overall rating boost from 1.5 to 2.0.

LF/DH Brian Cline (24) who was built to DH and hasn't seen much PT anywhere else, lost a defensive rating in LF dropping from 12 to 11. This lead to ratings drops across the board, overall 3.5 to 3.0 and Potential 4.0 to 3.5.

CF Pat Shelton (26) saw his speed go up from 16 to 17, but took a loss in the overall and potential ratings 2.5 to 2.0.

CF Pablo Freitas (23) our #2 pick in the inaugural draft got a bump on his potential power from 16 to 17, but overall lost half a star of potential dropping to 4.0

RF Jose Rodriquez (26) had his current power numbers drop from 13 to 12, but got a boost in the ratings, 2.5 to 3.5 (both overall and potential)

CL Jose Martinez (26-AAA) Had his current and potential stuff go from 11 to 12, earned a big boost in control from 12 to 14, dropped a stamina 17 to 16, but started throwing harder, now topping out at 95-97. His potential, as a starter, went up from 2.5 to 3.5.

1B Gilberto Ramos (28-AAA) who was demoted after hitting under .200 for the first month-plus had his defensive rating at first go up to 18, from 17. Overall and potential ratings took a drop though, from 2.5 to 2.0.

SP Mike Roeder (20-A) increased both is potential stuff (7 to 8) and current stamina (8 to 9)

LF Murray Pavie (20-A) had a good month, gaining a rating in contact 8 to 9, his eye got better (4 to 5) and defensively in LF he went from 12 to 13.

---
I went and update Pablo Freitas' position, as he is a primary LF with a defensive rating of 19 (he 12 in CF and 13 in RF).

And with the draft coming up (later today) I am going to look into making some trades. Jack Clow started dropping so now might be the time to see whats out there, along with Clow is another solid MR/CL Theo Petherick. Theo is 34 yeas old, the 2nd olders player on the squad so if we could get some prospects back for him might not be bad idea.

Draft Pool
This years draft isn't very deep with only 7 players with a 3.5* potential, and only one player close to being Major League ready.

The top players available (in no particular order) seem to be:
1. Dan Nelson, 18 year-old center fielder out of high-school.
>> a 2 star CF prospect that can fly

2. Steven Wilson, 18 year-old left fielder out of high-school.
>> a 1 star prospect that hits for power.

3. Jorge Morán, 23 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
>> the only guy his close to ML ready, currently a 2.5, with 4.5 potential. A hard thrower with great control.

4. Fabrice Bernard, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> a 1* prospect who show signs of great stuff and movement.

5. Eugene Carpenter, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> A 3.5 star prospect with great control potential.

6. Mike McNeal, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> A 2 star prospect who looks to be a solid #3 in the future

7. Matt Hollis, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
>> A 4 star prospect with good velocity and good stuff. Control is the question.

8. Derek Campbell, 21 year-old center fielder out of college.
>> A true utility man who can play 5 positions (16+ rating) and can steal some bases. If he hits he will live up to his 3.5 star potential.

9. Alexander Jordan, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> 1.5 star pitcher who has show signs of greatness, when he can throw strikes.

10. Arturo Ramírez, 17 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> A 4 pitch pitcher, who could make an impact on a big league club one day.
