The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without the services of SP Bill Singer for the remainder of the season, he has been diagnosed with a broken finger. Singer has already been on the DL this season when he was out with hepatitis. The 26 year old is 10-2 with a 1.50 ERA in 16 starts. Singer set a career high with 319 IPs in 1969 when he was 22-7 with a league leading 1.61 ERA in 40 starts. Singer won the 1969 NL Cy Young, the 1969 NL MVP and was a 1969 NL All Star. Singer led the league with 291 strikeouts in 1969 and 0.97 Whip. Singer also had 20 complete games to lead the NL in 1969. The Dodgers are fighting for the pennant with the Braves, Astros and Reds and this will be a huge blow.

The Houston Astros have released SP Jim Bouton. The 31 year old is 2-2 with a 5.67 ERA in 6 starts. Bouton had a career high 271 IPs in 1964 when he was 18-13 with a 3.02 ERA in a league leading 37 starts. Bouton was an AL All Star in 1963. The author of the book.... "Ball Four", was primarily a diary of his 1969 season. It focuses mostly on his experience with the expansion Seattle Pilots, AAA Vancouver and the Houston Astros in 1969. Bouton's book was a "tell all" that many players were upset with including commissioner Bowie Kuhn.
