New York Mets SP Tom Seaver allowed 4 hits and struck out 14 in a complete game 4-0 win over the Pirates. The 25 year old is 9-6 with a 3.24 ERA in 19 starts. Last season, Seaver was 11-17 with a 3.34 ERA in 35 starts for the Mets. Seaver was named the NL Pitcher of the Month for June when he went 5-1 with a 1.76 ERA in 51 innings.

Baltimore Orioles RF Frank Robinson was 3 for 4 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs in a 9-5 win over the Indians. The 34 year old is hitting .309 with 16 HRs and 48 RBIs in 75 games. Last season Robinson hit .282 with 32 HRs and 101 RBIs in 156 games for the Orioles.

Minnesota Twins SP Bert Blyleven was named the AL Rookie of the Month. The 19 year old is 6-1 with 2 saves, a 2.39 ERA in 18 games including 7 starts. The rookie was named the MLBs 2nd ranked prospect in April 1970.

San Francisco Giants SP Skip Pitlock was named the NL Rookie of the Month. The 22 year old is 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 8 games including 4 starts. Pitlock was named the MLBs 39th ranked prospect in April 1970.

Oakland Athletics 3B Sal Bando was named the AL Player of the Week. The 26 year old is hitting .311 with 15 HRs and 42 RBIs in 76 games. Last year Bando hit .261 with 25 HRs and 101 RBIs in 162 games for the Athletics.

Chicago Cubs 3B Ron Santo was named the NL Player of the Week. The 30 year old is hitting .302 with 15 HRs and 50 RBIs in 77 games. Santo hit .253 with 25 HRs and 96 RBIs in 162 games for the Cubs in 1969.

California Angels SP Clyde Wright in honored in a pre-game ceremony as he is inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame. (In real life Wright goes onto no hit the Athletics 4-0) The 29 year old is 9-6 with a 2.89 ERA in 19 starts. Last season Wright was 1-5 with a 5.12 ERA in 17 games including 5 starts for the Angels.

This Weeks Major Transactions

The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without the services of SP Camilo Pascual. The 36 year old has not pitched in the MLB this, but last pitched in 1969 when he was 4-9 with a 4.32 ERA in 35 games including 14 starts for the Reds (1) and Senators (13). Pascual is a 5-time All Star who led the league in HRs allowed in 1956 with 33. He also led the league 3 consecutive seasons in strikeouts. (1961-221, 1962-206, 1963-202) He also led the league 3 times in complete games (1959-17, 1962-18, 1963-18) Considered as having one of he most devastating curveballs ever seen, Pascual in his early career was always near the top of the league in strikeouts and won 88 games over a 6 year period with the Twins.

The Atlanta Braves have signed free agent Steve Barber after he was released by the Cubs a few days ago. The 32 year old is 1-1 with 1 save, a 4.91 ERA in 16 games for the Cubs. Barber is a 2-time All Star (1963, 1966) Barber led the league with 10 Wild pitches in 1960 and led he league with 0.50 HR/9 in 1960 as well. The wild lefty, was the Orioles first 20 game winner in modern history. Barber was a member of the trio of wild partying lefties, "The Lost Boys". By 1970 most scouts felt that Barbers arm was dying as he was getting cortisone shots in his arm while still in Seattle drawing the ire of teammate Jim Bouton in his book "Ball Four"

The St Louis Cardinals have traded RP Ted Abernathy to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for RP Chris Zachary. Abernathy's term in St Louis was short as the Cardinals acquired him in a trade early this year on May 29th from the Cubs. The 37 year old is 0-5 with a 7.01 ERA in 23 games with the Cardinals (5) and the Cubs (18). Abernathy is a 2 time Reliever of the Year (1965, 1967). Abernathy led the league in appearances 3 times (1965-84, 1967-70, 1968-78) The "submariner" converted from over-hand pitcher in 1948 after injuring his arm in game, he had 2 torn muscles in his shoulder. The 26 year old Zachary has not pitched in the MLB in 1970, he last pitched in 1969 for the Royals going 0-2 with a 6.35 ERA in 6 games including 2 starts.
