At the all star break, Waffletown finds themselves in rather unfamiliar territory. After a long string of successful seasons in the lower tiers, the Syrups sit at 46-49 just past the halfway mark of their first season in Perfect league. Most fans are actually pleasantly surprised at the team's performance against the top tier competition. The fact the team is in a division where no team seems to want the lead also helps, as Waffletown sits in second place, only 5 games back of the lead.

The one bright spot so far this season has been the performance of second baseman Cecil Travis at the plate. He currently ranks 3rd in the league with a .335 average (and was as high as .370 in the first week of June).

While the war chest has a decent amount of funds available, management knows it will take significantly more to acquire a quality player who will make an impact at this level; so the team will have to power through any struggles and make the most of what they already have.
