RBU South Division

Rattlers Benson Throws 3-Hitter Against Diamonds
Ron Benson of the Sugar Valley Rattlers was in command in the 5-1 win over the Claxton Diamonds. Benson (3-1) registered his 3rd win this season with a strong 3-hitter. The Rattler righthander struck out 6 and walked nobody. Only 3B Keith Olsen got to him with a solo homer in the seventh. CF Freddie Vaux led the bats for Sugar Valley with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. 2B Timmy Bell chipped in a solo roundtripper. Claxton's Bill Wallace (0-1) pitched well and gave up 3 runs on 8 hits in 8 innings. Wallace was shackled with the loss.

Sugar Valley (9-5) retained the top spot in the RBU South Division, while Claxton (5-9) continued to be in the cellar, 4 games back.

FC Homers Subdue Marston 5-4
The Marston Nine jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 4 innings, but it all came to naught when Forest City littered Legends Field with home runs and the Lumberjacks came out winners 5-4. 1B Kurt Vecchio cut it to 4-1 with a solo job in the fifth. Then the firepower really began in the sixth, when SS Pops Keller and RF Benny Davis hit 2-run shots to put them ahead to stay. Forest City got 5 shutout innings in relief from Herm Bahr (2-3) and Glenn Moore. Bahr got the win, Moore got the save. Bob Lowe hurled a complete game and was the loser. He gave up 9 hits, walked none and struck out 6. Lowe was burned by the longball. The Nine's best hitter was 1B Johnny Berthold with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs.

The Lumberjacks (7-7) are now even at .500 and are in fourth place in the RBU South race, 2 games in back of first place Sugar Valley. Marston (8-7) is tied for second with Waleska (8-7), one and a half games out of first.

Sunbirds Finally Win, Sink Westerners 10-2
Belair Beach's six-game nightmare is over now. 7 hits and 9 walks were converted into an easy 10-2 triumph by the Sunbirds over Waleska. RF Nicky Swift spearheaded the 'Birds attack with his 6th home run, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. 1B Nickie Gulina and CF Matty McDermott also batted in 2 runs apiece. Dirk Garrett (1-3) pitched well for Belair Beach. Back spasms forced him out in the seventh with an 8-1 lead. Garrett permitted 5 hits and fanned two in a solid effort. Marv Chancellor was nailed with the defeat, allowing 5 runs, 4 hits and 4 walks in 2+ innings. LF Charley Williamson (4th) and 3B Yoshihide Nishida (3rd) slugged solo homers for the Westerners.

Waleska had won four in a row. The Westerners (7-7) are in fourth place in the RBU South standings. Belair Beach (6-8) is in fifth place.
