The Canadiens head out to Motor City to face the (11-6-1) Red Wings which features an early Atlantic division race for 1st place match up. The Canadiens beat Detroit in there only meeting this year at the Bell Center 4-1.
There is no scoring in the 1st period, the shots favoured Montreal 8-4 and the PPs were 2-0 for Montreal.

The 3rd starts with Montreal putting the pressure on Detroit, mid way through the period Montreal is out shooting Detroit 8-3 but the Habs will kill off a penalty. Paul Brown, his 10th of the year to take a 2-1 lead. The Canadiens can't get the equalizer and the lose 2-1. The finals shots were 29-17 for Montreal. Detroit C
