The Los Angeles Spinners, off to an 11-7 start in 1975, lost a key player today when catcher Greg Foster, one of the better hitters at his position in the WPK and the Gold Glove winner in the MGL the past two seasons, will miss at least 3 weeks with a fractured rib.
And the Brewers see their star center fielder, the reigning MGL MVP, Joe McPhillips suffer a knee sprain making a terrific diving catch in yesterday's game against the Phoenix Speed Devils. McPhillips was initially listed Day-to-Day but with the Brewers training staff estimating that it will take a least a month for him to be fully recovered, the front office decided not to take a risk of this becoming a more serious injury and he was put on the 10-day IL.
To complicate things for the Brewers, they also saw Ryan Rodgers go down with an injury a few days before and are still waiting word on a final diagnosis and will likely need to put him on the IL soon too. For now, Zach Cook has been brought up to help out in center field. (Hector Hard, meanwhile, is on his way to AAA Chester for a rehab stint, having just come off the IL.) Depending upon what happens with Rodgers, it is very possible that the Brewers top prospect, Jorge Gonzalez, will get his first crack at the big league club soon. Gonzalez (.398/.436/.641) is off to a tremendous start this year at AAA Chester, but questions remain concerning his temperament and work ethic (Selfish player.)
