I figured out another way to make schedule variations and I was able to make a variation of 2015 with the proper number of interleague games being played among the 5 possible opponents. In real life the 20 games were broken down 6-4-4-3-3, but in my 2018 schedule the best I could do was 7-4-3-3-3 in 14 pairings and 8-3-3-3-3 in 1 pairing.
With my new method, I got the real life pairings of 6-4-4-3-3 for all teams. The new method involves massive cutting and pasting of the real 2015 schedule. First, I changed all the team IDs to the 3 letter abbreviation, then replaced these with the team ID of a different team. For example, Boston is team ID=2, so I replaced Baltimore "BLT" with "2". Since, Boston's rival is Philadelphia,. team ID=19, I had to replace "WAS" (Baltimore's rival) with "19" and so on for all 30 teams.
I forgot that since 2018 is an even-numbered year, Boston's rival should have been Atlanta, so that is why this schedule is labeled 2021.
