1974 All-Star Break
So with Aaron now the all-time homerun king I figure I will finish this little report off but before I do I will play out the rest of the 1974 season to see if the Braves get any better and to follow Al Kaline's pursuit of 3000 hits and 400 homeruns.
At the all-star break the Braves are still awful but have improved to 38-61 and overtaken the Padres for 5th in the NL West. Aaron is now batting .204 on the season but his 13 homers raise his career total to 726. So far in July he is batting .244, which is a big step up from April, May and June.
For Tiger fans there is great news. As you can see from the all-time homerun leaderboard at the break, Al Kaline has been on a tear this spring and already has 12 homers at the break, leaving him just 2 shy of the 400 mark. 3000 hits is still within reach but it might be a little tougher to accomplish as Kaline is batting .234 (77-for-329) and now has 2938 hits. So he is 62 hits away from 3000.
Here is how things look at the all-star break.
