The Rangers concluded their four game home series against the Minnesota Twins with a Sunday double header. Texas has lost 6 straight and have not scored more than a single run in 5 straight games. Twins SP Jim Perry announced that he would retire at the end of the season.

In the bottom of the third, the Rangers got on the board first when King scored from third on a Maddox groundout to third.

After three: Texas 1 Minnesota 0.

In the top of the fifth, the Twins had runners at the corners and nobody out. Luebber laid down a squeeze bunt but Gogolewski threw Brye out at home.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Burroughs then delivered a 2 run single. A walk to Mincher loaded the bases again. Kubiak popped up for the second out. Then Ford popped up to end the inning.

After six: Texas 3 Minnesota 0.

In the top of the seventh, the Twins scored when, with runners on the corners and one out, Luebber beat out the 6-4-3, allowing Brye to cross the plate. Tovar then brought Luebber home with a triple. With runners on the corners and two out, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers and struck out Killebrew to retire the side.

Casey Cox took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, a 2 out walk to Burroughs brought on a pitching change for the Twins and Tom Norton took the mound and struck out Mincher to end the inning.

In the top of the ninth, the Twins put runners on first and second but Killebrew flew out to center to end the Rangers losing streak.

Final score: Texas 3 Minnesota 2.

In the top of the first, Carew hit an RBI single. Darwin beat out the 6-4-3 to bring Braun home from third. The Twins would load the bases with two out and then Roof brought in all three with a double. Nine men came to the plate for the Twins in the inning.

In the bottom of the third, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Nelson went down swinging for the first out. Burroughs brought home a run with a sacrifice fly. Howard followed with a 3 run shot that went 408 feet.

After three: Minnesota 5 Texas 4.

In the bottom of the fifth, Bob Gebhard took the mound for the Twins with a runner on first and two out and he retired Billings to end the inning.

After six: Minnesota 5 Texas 4.

Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the eighth. The Twins loaded the bases with nobody out. Tovar grounded into the 6-2 for the first out. Braun hit an RBI single. Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers. Killebrew brought two home with a single. Paul hit Carew with a pitch and bases were again loaded with one out. Darwin went down swinging for the second out. Thompson then grounded to the pitcher to retire the side. The Twins batted around the order in the inning.

Wayne Granger took the mound for the Twins in the bottom of the eighth.

In the top of the ninth, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers with runners at second and third and one out. Tovar grounded to first to bring home a run.

Jim Strickland took the mound for the Twins in the bottom of the ninth.

The Twins pounded out 12 hits in the game.

Final score: Minnesota 9 Texas 4.
