In the top of the first, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. But Billings grounded to short to retire the side.

In the top of the third, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Burroughs then drew a walk to force in a run. Billings followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home another run. Ford then walked to load the bases with two out. A wild pitch then scored Howard from third. Kubiak walked to reload the bases. Then Gogolewski walked to bring home another run. Maddox walked to force in the fifth run of the inning. Harrah then flew out to center to finally retire the side. Eleven men came to the plate for the Rangers in the inning.

After three: Texas 5 Detroit 0.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cash put the Tigers on the board with an RBI double. Cash went on to score on a Freehan groundout to short.

In the top of the fifth, Bill Slayback took the mound for the Tigers with a runner at second and two out. Harrah drove a run in with a double.

After six: Texas 6 Detroit 2.

In the bottom of the seventh, Paul Lindblad came in to pitch for the Rangers with runners at the corners and one out and promptly threw a wild pitch to give up a run. Northrup added an RBI double.

Chris Zachary took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the eighth. Burroughs hit a two run homer.

Ron Perranoski took the mound for the Tigers in the top of the ninth.

Horacio Pina took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the ninth. Northrup got a run-scoring single. With runners at first and second and two out, Kaline grounded to second to end the game.

Final score: Texas 8 Detroit 5.
