It sure seems the Royals should be better than just .500 against the Rangers.

Maddox quieted the crowd with a 3 run homer in the third.

Splittorff struck out the side in the top of the fourth.

Walks and an error helped KC load the bases in the fifth. Mayberry then walked to bring in a run. Piniella tied it with a 2 run single. And Oliver gave the Royals the lead with an RBI single.

Splittorff recorded his 70th K on the season, striking out Burroughs in the sixth.

After Stanhouse walked Splittorff to begin the bottom of the sixth, he was replaced by Paul Lindblad.

After six: Kansas City 4 Texas 3.

Lindblad struck out Oliver to end the seventh for his 20th K on the season.

Mike Paul became the Rangers pitcher in the eighth inning.

Royals look good for the sweep.

After three: Kansas City 3 Texas 0.

Hand struck out Patek with runners at the corners with two out to bring his K total on the season to 40.

An error by the Rangers led to a run in the bottom of the fifth. And Schaal added a two run homer.

Nelson led off the top of the sixth with his own home run.

Jim Shellenback took over pitching duties for the Rangers with one out in the bottom of the sixth.
