Our available teams are:

Boston (85-77 in 1998, 3rd in ALE, 17 gb) -- A solid team before it encountered ownership problem. Offense features good young players like Luis Castillo, Mark Bellhorn, Eli Marrero, plus good veteran hitters like Jeff Kent, Derrick May and Midre Cummings. Top of the rotation with Hideo Nom, Steve Trachasel and Sam Miletello is solid but pitching staff lacks depth. Farm system: #4 (including SS Erick Almonte, P Braden Looper, P Tim Hudson, 1B Carlos Pena, P Mike Wuertz).

Cleveland (70-92 in 1998, 3rd in ALC, 23 gb ) -- Another really good team ran aground by ownership issues. They need some work now. They have superstar outfielders in Luis Gonzalez and Pedro Munoz, but infield is very weak and catching lacks any depth behind Charles Johnson. Rotation also needs work since it has a bunch of #4 - #5 starters but nothing to head the rotation. Will pick 8th in the 1998 draft. Farm system: #24 (including P Rafael Soriano)

New York (N) (61-101 in 1998, last in NLE, 39 gb) -- A dismal team since 1991, but ready for a turnaround, I think. Top of the roation with Jim Abbott and Russ Spring was good last year and they have a great bullpen with Alfonseca, Shuey, and Robb Nen. Fred McGriff is a stud and Aaron Boone, Stan Roye, Armando Rios, Preston Wilson and Richard Hidalgo provide a solid core for the good young prospects to build around. Gets #3 pick in the 1996 draft. Farm system: #7 (including SS Rafael Furcal, P Nick Neugebauer, 1B Travis Hafner, C Brian Schneider)

Philadelphia (84-78 in 1998, 3rd in NLE, 16 gb) -- Phillies over-performed a bit last year but they are a genuine .500+ team, even without an attentive ownership group. Trevor Wilson, Scott Elarton top a decent rotation but the bullpen (Graves, McElroy, Jeremy Hernandez) is good. Offense is headed by young sluggers like 2B Alfonso Soriano, Aaron Guiel, John Olerud and Ronnie Belliard. Their farm system, headed by a boosted Chad Hermansen is very good. Farm system: #5 (OF Chad Hermansen, C Ben Petrick, P Vicente Padilla, C Miguel Olivo).
