Home Opener!

The San Antonio Mission are here to open our home season in a 4 game series and then we have to hit the road again for the weekend. The Missions won their 1st 3 games of the season, but have lost their last 3, losing 3 of 4 in Seattle over the weekend. They do not get to have their Home Opener until this Friday. They are tied for 13th in scoring in the PCL with 3.17 runs per game (Portland is dead last (16th) with 2.50). They are tied with us for the fewest HR (1). The Missions are tied for 5th in fewest runs allowed with 3.67 per game (Portland is tied for 3rd with 3.17). We have the lowest ERA in the PCL at 2.39.

Lee Cole grounds a hit to right. He tries to steal 2nd, but we have a pitchout on and C Glenn Oswell throws him out! Ken Shepherd grounds a hit to center. He tries to steal and Oswell throws the ball into center and Shepherd goes to 3rd... Jim Jaeger flies out to center and Shepherd tags up and beats the throw home. 1 to 0, Missions. Al Lawson grounds out to the pitcher.

Bottom of the First:
Jack Hinckley lines out to 2nd. Bill Wilson lines a hit to right. Melvin Rodarte grounds out to 1st, 3-1, and Wilson moves to 2nd. Glenn Snowden grounds out to 2nd... Our young superstar is off to a slow start...

Bottom of the Third:

With 1 out, Jack Hinckley lines a 3-2 pitch to right for a hit. Bill Wilson lines a hit to left center. With 2 outs, Glenn Snowden grounds a hit to left and Hinckley beats the throw to the plate to tie the game at 1 all! Wilson and Snowden move up to 2nd and 3rd on the throw. Fernando Mexicano grounds out to 1st, unassisted.

Top of the Fourth:
Ken Shepherd leads off by reaching on an error by P Bobby Johnson. With 1 out, he steals 2nd and then scores on a hit by Al Lawson. 2 to 1, Missions.

Bottom of the Fourth:
Jerry Grant leads off with a home run to right! Tie game: 2 to 2.

Bottom of the Fifth:
Jack Hinckley leads off by swinging at a 3-2 pitch and beating out an infield hit. Bill Wilson bunts him to 2nd. Melvin Rodarte and Glenn Snowden both walk to load the bases up with 1 out. Fernando Mexicano pops out to 2nd... Jerry Grant grounds out to 1st, 3-1....

Bottom of the Sixth:
Dave Risinger leads off with a triple off the left center field wall! Glenn Oswell draws a walk. P Bobby Johnson bunts Oswell to 2nd and Risinger stays put at 3rd. Jack Hinckley doubles down the right field line and both runners score! 4 to 2, Beavers! Hinckley steals 3rd. With the infield in, Bill Wilson grounds out to short and Hinckley holds. 2 outs. Melvin Rodarte swings at a 3-2 pitch and fouls out to 3rd...

Won - 4 to 2

We had 10 hits and made 2 errors
San Antonio had 7 hits and made no errors

Bobby Johnson (W 1-1) went 8 innings, allowed 2 unearned runs, 7 hits, 1 walk, 1 HB and struck out 6.
RHP Bobby Weatherford (SV 2) pitched a perfect 9th with 1 strikeout.

Cal Ferguson (L 0-1) went 6 innings, gave us 4 runs, 9 hits, 1 home run, 3 walks and struck out 1.

CF Jack Hinckley had 3 hits with a double, stole a base, scored a run and had 2 RBI. RF Bill Wilson had 2 hits. LF Jerry Grant hit his 1st home run of the season. SS Dave Risinger hit a double and a triple and scored a run.
