The final game of 2002. There is absolutely no significance to this game at all for either team. Hollywood is locked in 2nd place and we are locked in 5th place. We could tie the Angels with a win, if they lose their game, but they hold the tie breaker on us with a better head to head record.

Portland Beavers (79-82 .491 26 GB in 5th place in the PCL West) at
Hollywood Stars (85-76 .528 20 GB in 2nd place in the PCL West)

POR: Bobby Johnson (23-R 13-11 3.13) vs. HOL: Gerry Sullivan (26-R 12-5 2.54 8 SV)

Johnson has won 2 starts in a row and has not lost in September. He pitched a complete game win last time out with 4 runs allowed.

Sullivan is 1-0 on two starts against us this season and pitched well both times. One of his Saves was also earned at our expense.

Top of the First:
Brian Mitchell grounds out to 1st, unassisted. Dave Risinger beats out an infield hit. He gets caught stealing... Fernando Mexicano strikes out...

Bottom of the First:
Fred Rambo swings at a 3-2 pitch and hits a home run down the right field line... 1 to 0, Stars. Bud Lisk flies out to right. Jose Naranjo swings at a 3-2 pitch and lines hit #215 to right. He steals 2nd. Steve Bone pops out to center. Larry Church grounds one to 2nd, but 1B Glenn Snowden drops the ball for error #20.... Jerry Suazo drives one to deep center, but Larry Ballard makes a leaping catch!

Bottom of the Second:
Bobby Deaton leads off with the second home run of his season.... 2 to 0, Stars.

Lost - 5 to 0

We end the season with 5 losses in a row...

We had 4 whole hits (all singles) and made 1 error
Hollywood had 10 hits and made no errors

Bobby Johnson (L 13-12) went 4 innings, allowed 4 runs, 7 hits, 2 home runs, 1 walk and struck out 3.
RHP Ken Powell got 2 outs and gave up a hit and then got hurt (I told Trudy to skip the report; I don't care if he is dead or alive).
RHP Bill Moon went 2.1 innings, allowed 1 run, 2 hits, 1 home run, 1 walk and struck out 2.
RHP Jim Kokos pitched 1 perfect inning and struck out 1.

Gerry Sullivan (W 13-5) went 7.1 shutout innings, gave us 4 hits, no walks and struck out 7. At bat, he drew a walk.

Nobody did anything worthy of being mentioned.... It was just plain sorry to watch...

Around the League: Atlanta won at Pittsburgh, 7 to 5, to clinch the National League West Division Championship.
