Charles England
Charles England was a pitcher who had a brief stint with the 1946 Newark Eagles. He started two games and lost them both. The photo is from the newly released SABR book on the 1946 Negro League World Series Champions Newark team, THE NEWARK EAGLES TAKE FLIGHT.
Although England's career in the Negro Leagues was fleeting, after baseball he became an honored teacher and coach. Today, there is an intermediate school and a foundation in his name in Lexington, NC. He is also in the Shaw University HOF. He died in 1999.
