Shreveport signs Scott Kazmir to a 2 year $48,200 deal. Kazmir hasn't pitched since 1968. He was an unsigned free agent for all of 1970.

Fort Worth gave Frank Viola a 7 year $518,000 contract, keeping the 8 year vet in town. Viola has 111 wins against 70 losses with a 3.01 ERA

Jackson signs Bill Melton to a 6 year $360,200 deal. Melton has a .270 career average with 107 Home Runs. Melton took home MVP honors in 1969 belting 40 bombs driving in 134 runs and hitting .326. He fell off to just 16 home runs last season and only hit .253.

Shreveport keeps Jack Shepard in town for one more season signing him to a $19,800 contract

Alexandria signed Veteran pitcher to a $31,800 one year deal. French is 36 years old, 207 wins, 167 defeats. He has an excellent 2.83 career ERA. Not sure how much Larry still has in the tank, but we'll see.

Oh WOW, we have a trade. The Beaumont Crush just shipped 19 year old Willie Horton(lf) and 25 year old Chris Herrmann to the Birmingham Slammers for 25 year old right fielder Paul Dade. I'm speechless and biased, but wow did Beaumont just get fleeced. WOW!

Biloxi signs 30 year old third baseman Bill Spiers to a 4 year $122,600 deal. Spiers is a career .247 hitter with 284 RBI, 304 Runs.

Mobile holds onto Van Mungo, signing him to a 2 year extension $52,000. I love this one. The Southern League wins leader pitched his first 9 seasons with Mobile, before stints in Lake Charles and Shreveport totaling 6 season. He then returned to Mobile in 1968.

Corpus Christi signed 34 year old Richie Ashburn to a 19,200 1 year deal. Richie is a career .284 hitter with 1727 hits. He's scored a total of 763 runs during his career. Ashburn is a 7 time Gold Glove winner.
