Thursday, October 15th 1970 Alexandria vs Fort Worth

Mike Minor(0-1, 3.26) vs Kevin Tapani(0-0, 2.08)

Clear skies, 61 degrees, wind blowing in from center 11mph

The home teams stay perfect as Fort Worth takes game 6, 4-3. Both teams traded runs in the 1st. Jim Presley would reach 1st on another Jerry Lumpe error in the top of the 4th. Joe DiMaggio would follow with a single and Presley would run thru the stop sign reaching 3rd base on close call. Billy Sample would then ground to 1B, forcing DiMaggio at second. Presley scores. The aces would strand Sample at 1st. 2-1 Alexandria.

Bottom of the 4th: Griffey Jr. leads off and strikes out looking. Bobby Kielty singles. Tony Perez then goes down looking as well. 2 down, man on 1st. Hal Chase would then hit a foul ball down the right field line. Billy Sample ranged over to catch it, but had the ball pop out of his glove, e-9. Chase with new life, but down 1-2 in the count, smashes a single to left. Kielty stops at second. Jack Hannifin comes to the plate looks at one up high for ball one and then strokes a double to left. Kielty scores, Chase scores the ball is cutoff holding Jack at second. Jerry Lumpe came to the plate and atoned for his earlier error with a run scoring single. 4-2 Fort Worth

Kevin Tapani got into a groove staying in the game into the 9th inning. Tapani was able to get Jim Presley to swing and miss for the first out in the bottom of the ninth. He then gave up a single to Joe DiMaggio. In comes Tim Crews. Crews would get Billy Sample to hit into a fielders choice forcing DiMaggio at 2nd. Crews would then throw a mistake to Dave Watkins resulting in a double to center. Sample scores and the game is now 4-3 with Buddy Blair coming to the plate. Blair swung at the first pitch lining out to right to end the game.

We now get ready for a game 7.
