Montreal Canadiens (19-14-2) at Carolina Hurricanes (18-12-3)

The Canadiens finally won a game after losing 10 in a row. Now it would be nice to build a streak of wins. Tonight it is PNC Arena and the Hurricanes. Montreal is currently in 5th spot in the East with 40 points, 13 behind the conference leading Bruins. The Islanders currently hold down 9th spot with 35 points so Montreal is currently 5 points ahead. Montreal currently rank 29th with just 2.06 goals per game, the give up 2.37 goals a game for 8th in the NHL.

Montreal C/LW Cal Couling is a offensive forward from Pembroke, ON. The 22 year old won the Les Cunningham Trophy (AHL MVP) in 1983. The scouts see him as a great playmaker and he is being used as a speedy forward on the 4th line. Montreal signed Couling in July 1983 after he scored 27 goals and 66 points for the San Diego Gulls of the AHL. This season with Montreal he has 2 goals and 2 points in 8 games.

The Hurricanes are currently in 6th spot in the East with 39 points. The Hurricanes can dent the twine, they average 3.06 goals per game which ranks them 3rd in the NHL. The Hurricanes allow 2.70 goals per game which ranks them 19th.

The period ends with the Hurricanes out shooting Montreal 11-10.

Montreal goes up 2-1 at 9:44 when RW Scott Rous gets his 2nd of the season. Carolina ties it up 2-2 at 12:31 when C Maxime Lavoie gets his 2nd of the game. Montreal goes up 3-2 at 17:04 when RD Jonathan Harper gets his 3rd of the year. Montreal out shot the Hurricanes 10-8 in the period.

Montreal grabs a 4-2 lead when LW Quincy Kaminsky gets his 5th of the season at 4:15. Carolina makes it 4-3 at 14:29 when RW Peter Cortal gets his 13th on the PP. Montreal hangs on for the win out shooting the Canes 14-7 in the 3rd and 34-26 for the game. Montreal goes 0 for 3 on the PP and Carolina was 1 for 5.

Montreal LW Robert Hendriksson had an assist and was the 1st star. The 22 year old from Gavle, SWE now has 4 goals and 24 points with 23 PIMs in 36 games. In is 3rd year with Montreal, he had a career high of 15 goals in the 1981-82 season.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that LW Josef Kramar will be day to day with a sore hamstring. The 21 year old has 8 goals and 14 points in 36 games this season.
