Toronto Maple Leafs (11-14-3) at Montreal Canadiens (18-10-1)

Montreal faces one of the NHL's weaker teams and a good opportunity to bump the slump. Montreal is currently 8 points behind the Bruins but the Bruins have played 2 more games and the Islanders and Rangers are right behind Montreal with 35 points, 2 less then Montreal with a game in hand. Montreal is ranked 27th in the NHL with just 2.28 goals per game. Montreal is ranked 5th in the NHL by giving up just 2.24 goals per game.

LD Jakub Svec is a 20 year old from Svitavy, CZE. Described as a two way defenseman, his strongest part of his game is skating. Svec is currently on the 3rd pairing for Montreal with a mobile defenseman role. Svec was the Canadiens 114th overall pick in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. In his 2nd season with the Canadiens, he has 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points with 14 PIMs in 29 games. Both are career highs. He did have 30 goals and 106 points with 91 PIMs in 123 QMJHL games with the Charlottetown Islanders.

Toronto gets a 2-0 lead at 1:55 of the 2nd when C Ed Fish gets his 8th of the year. Montreal breaks the shut out bid up at 10:56 of the period when C Bryce Spencer gets his 7th of the season on the PP. A rare PP goal for Montreal. The shots for the period favored Montreal again, 15-5.

Toronto goes up 3-1 when C Rich Baverstock gets his 3rd of the year at 6:23. Montreal loses again, the team cannot seem to score or prevent goals right now. The shots were 13-10 in the period and 38-23 over the game all in favor of Montreal. Toronto was 0 for 4 on the PP, Montreal was 1 for 7.

Toronto's C Connor Wright had a goal and an assist and was the 1st star. The 21 year old from Calgary, AB now has 13 goals and 22 points with 6 PIMs in 29 games. In his 3rd year with Toronto, he had a career high of 27 goals last year.

New Jersey Devils LW Simon Pavlicek had 2 assists in a 3-1 win over the Blue Jackets. The 29 year old from Kadan, CZE now has 4 goals and 26 points with 24 PIMs in 29 games. The 3-time All-Star is now in his 4th season with the Devils, he had a career high of 40 goals in 1981-82.

Colorado Avalanche LW Greg Sandison had a goal in a 2-1 win over the Blues. The 28 year old from Wallaceburg, ON now has 13 goals and 30 points with 18 PIMs in 29 games. The 2-time All-Star is in his 4th season with Colorado, he had a career high of 31 goals in the 1981-82 season.
