In the top of the second, Taussig pitched in an RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, the Colt .45s loaded the bases with nobody out. Taussig lined to second for the first out. Golden grounded into the 4-2 fielder's choice for the second out. Amalfitano then grounded to third to retire the side without the Colt .45s getting a run.

In the top of the fifth, the Colt .45s loaded the bases with two out. Ranew flew to right to retire the side without a run scoring in this inning either.

After six: Houston 2 Chicago 1.

In the top of the seventh, Mejias sent an 0-2 pitch 386 feet to left center for a solo home run. Larker followed with a double and then Aspromonte jacked one 411 feet to left center for a two run blast.

Jim Umbricht took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the eighth.

Jim Brewer took the mound for the Cubs in the top of the ninth. Larker scored from third when Ranew grounded to second. Taussig brought Aspromonte home with a sacrifice fly.

George Brunet took the mound for the Colt .45s in the bottom of the ninth.

The Colt .45s out hit the Cubs 15-4 to get the win.

Final score: Houston 7 Chicago 1.
