Interlude:
The draft pool was revealed on Saturday as well, the day of our first game vs. Hartford. The downside of a big league is that draft picks come very far apart, and so the Bees won't pick until pick #47. After the sandwich round, our second pick won't come until #127 and our third won't be until #191! I was scouting the draft pool, especially for starting pitchers, and found a number of names that I liked only to discover that they're expected to be picked in the top ten. :/
The top ten players are listed as follows:
1. Dan Long, RHP, St. John's
2. Jon Green, RHP, Oregon State
3. Miguel Arteaga, 3B, HS (Streator, IL)
4. Thomas Knotek, CF, Univ. of Alabama
5. Bobby Padin, RHP, Troy University (AL)
6. Kelly Richman, SS, HS (Hudson, NY)
7. Chris Grubb, RHP, Georgia Tech
8. Richard Hilton, RHP, Houston Baptist U
9. Bruce Hallman, LHP, HS (Goose Creek, SC)
10. Brent Whiting, RHP, Univ. of the Pacific (CA)
The players that really impress me are ranked 2 through 5, but it's Padin that I like the best. Anyway, no chance any of them will fall down to me, so I'm off to search for some lower-ranked gems.
The draft is still about a month away.
