2077 Season (6/14 – 6/16)

Los Angeles Lakers (39-23, .629, 1st NL West) @ Houston Dynamo (21-43, .328, 6th AL West)
The Houston Dynamo are something of a Laker dumping ground for noodle armed pitchers… SP Josiah Kawka, the Ace who fell from grace while wearing the Purple & Gold, RP Saul Guzman, the hard-partying everyman who earned 24 saves before going down for the last 6-games of the season with ‘dead arm’, and RP Rudolf the Ruiner, who was just terrible, have all found a home in Houston. Kawka, back in the ‘Ace” role has a 5-7 record with a 3.92 ERA, and is only maintaining that spot by virtue of the rest of Houston’s staff being so far below subpar that one has to wonder why the Dynamo brass hasn’t hit the Bush League for talent. And, Rudolf? Well, he’s fitting right in – 2 blown saves and a loss since joining the club. And, Saul? 7.71 ERA, 7 BB/9, and a -0.5 WAR. The Dynamo are in the midst of a full-on tanking effort, it seems – they’re ranked 12th in Runs Scored, OBP, bWAR, BR, FIP, and ZR. Hell, even their batboys could use some work – prancing around the field like a gazelle on Xanax with a running gait that can only be described as a poor man's imitation of a duck waddle… It’s a rare thing that you see a club that is this good at being bad… If this isn’t a sweep, we riot.

63 of 162: Dejuan Burns (5-4, 3.35) @ Cleveland Cornejo (3-7, 5.14)
Win, 7-3
. Recent call-up, 2B Mark Messick, went 4 for 4 with a double, an RBI, and a run… Otto clubbed his 16th and drove in 3, Voorhis put his 8th out of the park, and Burns gets his 6th W off of a 7 IP, 3 ER effort. Lots of good stuff in this one – 3 stolen bases (Lonzo, Otto, Hamza), 2 DP’s, a SAC BUNT from Hamza, a SAC FLY from PEPPER, and a double for OH HONG.

Elsewhere: C Brahnan Jones, of the Portland Timbers, went 4 for 6 with a HR, 6 RBI, and 2 runs in their 17-7 victory over the Phoenix Suns – helping the Laker cause… Portland was victorious in this one despite Jacob Wells’ 2 HR & 5 RBI performance for Phoenix. Jones has been a career backup at Catcher and has spent time in Vancouver, Brooklyn, and Portland in his MLB Career. He started off this season in the Bush League as the starting Catcher for the Sunrise Supremos where he hit .338 with a HR and an RBI before the Timbers purchased his $600K contract on May 9th. He won a World Series with Vancouver in 2072. Wrist and elbow problems have plagued him a bit during his career, but he’s managed to put together a pretty respectable fringe career in the Bigs…

64 of 162: Paul Yeager (9-2, 3.10) @ Prior Balazs (4-8, 6.14)
Win, 5-2
. Yeager gave us 7.1 innings of work and allowed only 2 runs to score, PEPPER went 1 for 3 with a homer, and Otto drew two walks and scored… Save #15 for Barbaccia, a stolen bag for Ethan, doubles for OH HONG and Rajkumar (who was also hit by a pitch), and a sweet McDonnel-Mack-Hong double play in this one – we’re doing what we’re supposed to do here, playing at full throttle against a club that is built like a Yugo.

65 of 162: Newton Weiser (7-3, 2.61) @ Josiah Kawka (5-7, 3.92)
Win, 7-4
. The streets of Houston are safe tonight – we got the sweep, there will be no riot. Otto went 2 for 4 with a HR & 4 ribbies, and Newton went deep into the game (8 innings) and gave up 4 runs – look, he wasn’t magical tonight, but he got it done… 16th save for Barbaccia, another double for OH HONG, stolen bags for Lonzo Gonzo, Otto, and Ethan, 2 double plays, and an OF Assist from Voorhis. We’re pretty good at baseball you guys – especially when we play a team like Houston. I’m not convinced that they could even make the playoffs in the Bush League.

Some notes: We’ll head to San Francisco for a 4-game series next followed by a day off and then 3 more on the road against Vancouver… Our lead on Phoenix has been extended to 5 games and with a couple of patsies on the docket we’ll have a good opportunity to pad it even more… the combined winning percentage of our next two opponents is .385. In the Bush League… we have some really tight divisions so far… in the Independence Division, the Dearborn Dilly’s have a 1 game lead over the Naperville Nibblers, Nolanville ‘Nauts, and Gainsville Gamecocks… while, in the Justice Division, the Beaumont Bullies, Columbia Blowfish, and Decatur Donnybrooks are stuck in a 3-way tie for the top spot.

Speaking of the Bush League… I might need to invest in a club down there (maybe go halves with Shawna) because it seems like selling players to the Majors (for a fee of $500K a pop) is pretty lucrative… So far in 2077, the following contracts have been purchased.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of 3B Ethan Cope to the Orlando City.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of C Joon-Ho Kang to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SP Ferdie Acker to the Toronto Reds BC.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of CL Chip Gaytan to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
  • Naperville Nibblers: Sold the contract of SS Sammie Fregoso to the Minnesota North Stars. – Had no idea this even happened, Sammie is having a really good season for the North Stars too…
  • Quincy Quackers: Sold the contract of RP Tony Dyson to the Dallas Cowboys.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of C Yo****aro Nakamura to the St. Louis Rams.
  • Coney Island Footlongs: Sold the contract of 2B Zippo Hollins to the Phoenix Suns.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of CL Kayden Thomason to the Phoenix Suns.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of C Tanner Meminger to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
  • Quincy Quackers: Sold the contract of SP David Ouwerkerk to the San Francisco 49ers.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of CF Zoë Cuello to the Chicago Fire.
  • Dearborn Dilly's: Sold the contract of LF Roy Schoenherr to the San Diego Chargers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SS C.J. Elliott to the Vancouver Whitecaps.
  • Naperville Nibblers: Sold the contract of LF Thomas Torin to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of SS Ethan Beckmann to the Houston Dynamo.
  • Columbia Blowfish: Sold the contract of CF Jason Dalton to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Coney Island Footlongs: Sold the contract of SP Jack Monroe to the Montreal Impact.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of SP A.J. Hinson to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of SP E.J. Powers to the St. Louis Rams.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of SS Kevin Palmer to the Portland Timbers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SP Flamengo Zamora to the Philadelphia 76ers.
  • Naperville Nibblers: Sold the contract of CL Carlos Cortez to the Carolina Panthers.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of 3B Sherman Hardcastle to the Green Bay Packers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SS Wyatt Lucas to the Carolina Panthers.
  • Columbia Blowfish: Sold the contract of 3B Devin Kelly to the Chicago Fire.
  • Sunrise Supremos: Sold the contract of C Brahnan Jones to the Portland Timbers.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of CF Ned Saucerman to the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Nolanville 'Nauts: Sold the contract of CF Zach Lavoie to the Los Angeles Lakers.
  • Shreveport Sashimi Samurai: Sold the contract of C Max Vislosky to the Seattle Sounders.
  • Beaumont Bullies: Sold the contract of SP Jay Hernandez to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  • Dearborn Dilly's: Sold the contract of C Alshon Jimena to the Golden State Warriors.
  • Decatur Donnybrooks: Sold the contract of CL Adrián Oronia to the Montreal Impact.

Beaumont has pocketed $8M in fees so far! Yeah, I’m definitely buying a Bush League Club – who do I talk to about expansion?
