08/28/1973 - Giants Score Late to Upend Phillies, 4-

San Francisco Giants starter Don Carrithers turned in a top-notch performance against the Philadelphia Phillies at Veterans Stadium. The result was a win for the Giants, 4-2. Charlie Williams notched his 3rd save in 4 chances. San Francisco is now 59-72.

Dave Kingman, who is tied for 7th in the NL in extra base hits with 48, chipped in for San Francisco with a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth off Phillies reliever RHP George Culver. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.

Carrithers told a San Francisco Chronicle reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win
