1931-1932 Season in Review

Detroit renamed the Falcons by new owners finished first overall and won the Stanley Cup.

Oleniek (NYR) led the league in points, while Ottawa's Gibbs and Scholz led in goals and assists.

Toronto's Christensen led in most major goalie categories.

Philadelphia (Pittsburgh) asked to be suspended for the season while arena issues are worked out. At most we can "help" one city understand the need for an arena: Pittsburgh with the strong hockey history or Philadelphia which is a much larger market.

But we may need to "help" other franchises too. If we help Philadelphia (Pittsburgh) we may not be able to help anyone else. Detroit's new owners went into receivership and Ottawa are not doing well as their owners can't afford to run their teams. The Canadiens have another anonymous offer on the table, this time for less money ($300,000 when it was $600,000 due to the recession). It looks likely that Montreal can't support two teams. Also the Americans may be in trouble as well as the Rangers (who also own MSG) are taking all the best arena dates.

Some help may be on the way. James Norris owner of the Chicago team in the now pro AHL want's to buy into the NHL. So far he's asked about expanding to St. Louis, purchasing Ottawa and moving them to either Chicago or Toronto as a second team and purchasing Detroit (and renaming them the "Red Wings" of all things). Should we let him help and what option should we let him pursue?
