Montreal Canadiens (14-11-1) at Los Angeles Kings (12-11-3)

The Canadien's Western Road Trip continues with a stop in Los Angeles to face the Pacific Divisions 2nd place team at the Staples Center. Montreal made a roster move today sending G Richard Day back to St Johns in the AHL to continue to get more playing time but promoted St Johns backup G Jason Wells. Wells is 2-3-0 with a 2.81 GAA and .918 save % in 6 AHL games this season. The 29 year old has played in 3 games with the Habs going back to the 1980-81 season. The purpose of the move is to get G Steve Burris some playing time in the AHL. Montreal has played the Kings once, on October 3rd we beat the Kings 4-2 in Montreal. The Kings rank last in the NHL for shots against per game with 38.

The Kings are led by C Tyler Gomes. The 28 year old has 1 goal and 7 points in 26 games this season. Gomes's strengths are his face offs and getting into the goalies grill to screen em. The native of Wetaskiwin AB had a career high of 21 goals in the 1980-81 season for the Oilers, but has struggled since then. In 170 NHL games, he has 31 goals, 55 assists for 86 points with 177 PIMs and a +24 rating.

RD Tomas Ferenc will not be in the line-up for the Kings. The 37 year old Ferenc was injured during the Kings last game and is expected to be day to day with whiplash. Ferenc had 5 goals and 22 points in 26 games this season. The puck moving defenseman is a strong passer with great offensive read. In his 3rd season with the Kings, Ferenc has 26 goals, 85 assists for 111 points with 168 PIMs and a +23 rating in 173 NHL games.

At C the Kings have 29 year old Brit Sedgwick. Sedgwick has 8 goals ans 16 points in 26 games this year. Best discribed as a team player, Sedgwick is strong on both sides of the rink. In his 3rd season as a King, Sedgwick has 68 goals, 82 assists for 150 points with 172 PIMs and a +27 rating in 185 games.

Montreal will go with G Mike Blackshear between the pipes, he has 11 wins in 21 starts with a .879 save %. The Kings will start Harrison Wylie. Wylie has 9 wins in 21 starts with a .902 save %.

Montreal needed just 48 seconds to open the scoring when RW Yevgeny Ronov got his 4th of the year. The Kings tie it at 16:51 when C David Hruby gets his 2nd of the year on the PP. The period ends tied with the shots tied at 8 as well.

The 2nd period was scoreless with the Habs out shooting the Kings 16 to 14 in the period. The Kings are currently on the PP to end the period and are 1 for 5 so far in the game while Montreal is 0 for 3.

The Kings take a 2-1 lead at 11:45 of the 3rd when LD Ernest Howell gets his 4th of the season. The Kings make it 3-1 at 16:54 when LW Eddie Kilmer gets his 4th of the season. Los Angeles salts it away with another goal just seconds later at 17:02 from RD Ben Donelan. Montreal could not get going on the PP as they were 0 for 6 while the Kings were 1 for 7. Rookie LW Jiri Bohm got in his 1st NHL fight, he didnt win but he showed up.

The first star was Kings C Brit Sedgwick with his 2 assists. The 29 year old now has 8 goals and 18 points in 27 games.

Carolina Hurricanes RW Patrick Connor had 2 goals and an assist in a 4-3 win over the Capitals. The 28 year old Connor now has 13 goals and 27 points in 25 games. Dallas Stars C Mike McDaniel had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Avalanche. The 30 year old McDaniel has 15 goals and 31 points in 27 games. The 2-time All-Star has played in 164 career NHL games including 55 with the Wild. In those games he has 63 goals, 90 assists for 153 points with 173 PIMs and a +21 rating. Dallas got McDaniel in a 1981 offseason trade with the Wild.
