We obviously opened the season 7-15 and are dead last in the NL Central(dejavu anybody?). Things are not running smooth obviously and the front office is preparing for a sale... though not a firesale. With
Ryan Braun down, our chances to rebound big time in May are slim... and that means we may have lost the season in the first month of play.
Rotation:
Name | Age | League | W-L | ERA | G | WHIP | K/9 | Status |
Mike Fiers(R) | 29 | ML | 0-1 | 5.17 | 5GS | 1.21 | 9.2 | 1 |
Matt Garza(R) | 31 | ML | 2-2 | 4.64 | 5G | 1.33 | 7.9 | 0 |
Kyle Lohse(R) | 36 | ML | 0-4 | 5.87 | 4GS | 1.61 | 6.7 | 3 |
Wily Peralta(R) | 25 | ML | 0-0 | 2.25 | 1GS | 1.25 | 15.8 | 0 |

Paul Maholm(L) | 32 | AAA | 1-1 | 2.18 | 4G/3GS | 1.06 | 6.1 | All stats AAA |
The rotation has been a utter disappointment apart from
Tyler Thornburg who Ronny had penciled in as a reliever to start the year.
Kyle Lohse's trade value may just be zero by now but fortunately... he is a free agent after this season.
Matt Garza was solid... but has a guaranteed contract for $12.5M annual till 2017 with a team option for 2018... and for what he is able to contribute... this is a bit too much and we may look to flip him for a good prospect if we continue to pile up L's.

The pen has been rather impressive... for a burning train wreck... that kinda accident that is technically really worse... but one stilll has to watch it. There is some serious money tied up in this pen and some guys that are not easily tradable... or demotable. We will leave the group alone for now and hope that Ron and our highly motivated pitching coach(I told him he would be sent to Sibiria if this doesn't work out) will get this pen straightened out.
Catchers:
Name | Age | League | Avg-HR-RBI | OPS | G | WAR | R | SB | Status |
Jonathan Lucroy(R) | 28 | ML | .275-1-7 | .700 | 20 | 0.3 | 7 | 1/2
Martin Maldonado(R) | 28 | ML | .308-1-1 | .973 | 6G | 0.2 | 1 | 0/0
Juan Centeno(L) | 25 | AAA | .333-0-8 | .730 | 18G | 0.4 | 10 | 0/0 | All stats AAA |
Lucroy has started rather cold compared to last year while
Maldonado played only a handful of games and started in three...
Lucroy has shown flashes of a Silver Slugger catcher last year and was an All-Star... hoping for a better month...
Infield:
Name | Age | League | Avg-HR-RBI | OPS | G | WAR | R | SB | Status |
1B Adam Lind(L) | 31 | ML | .212-2-8 | .598 | 21G | -0.2 | 9 | 0/0
2B Scooter Gennett(L) | 24 | ML | .157-1-10 | .421 | 22 | -0.7 | 7 | 1/1
3B Luis Jimenez(R) | 27 | ML | .429-2-3 | 1.357 | 8G/2GS | 0.3 | 4 | 0/0
3B Aramis Ramirez(R) | 36 | ML | .184-4-9 | .643 | 22 | -0.1 | 10 | 0/0
SS Hector Gomez(R) | 27 | ML | .200-0-1 | .467 | 13G/6GS | -0.3 | 4 | 0/1
3B Jean Segura(R) | 25 | ML | .302-0-2 | .709 | 21G/16GS | 0.2 | 2 | 3/4
2B/SS Luis Sardinas(S) | 21 | AAA | .300-0-6 | .810 | 20G | 0.8 | 16 | 14/14 | All stats AAA |
3B Mike Moustakas(L) | 26 | AAA | .216-0-7 | .632 | 15G/12GS | -0.2 | 2 | 1/1 | All stats AAA |
We will bring
Mous to AAA to get a clean look at his swing... but he can not possibly be worse than our corner infielders, our second baseman... our mascot is performing for a higher WAR right now.
Lind has been a major disappointment for a guy with a Silver Slugger Award on his resumee and
Gennett more or less made the last two years look like a fluke... Once again, I preach patience for another month... but then things may happen quite fast.
Outfield:
Name | Age | League | Avg-HR-RBI | OPS | G | WAR | R | SB | Status |
LF/RF Ryan Braun(R) | 31 | ML | .254-4-6 | .800 | 18G | 0.4 | 11 | 1/1 | DL Fractured Rib 5 weeks |
LF Khris Davis(R) | 27 | ML | .244-4-9 | .771 | 21G | 0.2 | 10 | 0/1
CF Carlos Gomez(R) | 29 | ML | .322-2-12 | .811 | 21G | 0.6 | 8 | 2/4
OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis(L) | 27 | ML | .143-0-1 | .500 | 12G/6GS | -0.2 | 0 | 0/0 | (NYM) |
OF Gerardo Parra(R) | 27 | ML | .192-0-0 | .442 | 17G/4GS | 0.0 | 3 | 0/0
OF Logan Schafer(L) | 28 | ML | .150-1-1 | .490 | 13G/3GS | -0.1 | 1 | 0/0
OF Ryan Kalish(L) | 27 | AAA | .419-1-8 | 1.069 | 8G/7GS | 0.5 | 3 | 4/4 | DL Sprained Ankle 3 days |
The outfield is where the production is... and 1/3 of it is on the DL.
Carlos Gomez is pleading his case for an extension but is not willing to talk about one until he is in a contract year... too bad.
Khris Davis is roughly doing the same as he did last year... with more HR and lesser doubles.
Nieuwenhuis,
Schafer and
Parra as well as
Kalish are fringe major leaguers that should be able to keep us afloat... who that depends on your definition of 'afloat'.
