Walkers news: May 20 -- St. Louis 6, Springfield 5

Record: 22-19, 2nd, 3.5 GB Kansas City
Austin Hedges has not done much with the bat since signing as a free agent in the offseason with St. Louis, but he made a big contribution in its 6-5 win over Springfield smacking a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning off Ryan Pressley to snap a 5-5 tie at Olympic Stadium.
A three-run bottom of the fourth inning against River Walkers ace Aaron Nola had staked the Prairie Fighters to a 4-1 lead.
J.P. Crawford had the big hit in that inning with a two-run single.
An inning later, a solo homer from Ryan Mountcastle increased that advantage to 5-1.
But St. Louis crawled back into it.
Nicky Delmonico hit a two-out, three-run homer off Triston McKenzie in the sixth inning.
An inning later, the Walkers tied it when Christian Arroyo led off with a single off Anyelo Gomez.
He stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Hedges.
Pinch-hitter Eduardo Escobar chased Arroyo home with a sacrifice fly.
Nola had one of his roughest outings of the season, allowing five runs on 10 hits in six innings.
Brad Hand tossed a scoreless eighth and Reyes Moronto (0.2 IP) and Bobby Poyner (0.1) handled the eighth.
Poyner earned his first win of the season.
Tommy Kahnle pitched around a lead-off single in the ninth for his eighth save.

St. Louis shortstop Andrelton Simmons left the game after making a throw in the third inning.

No diagnosis has been offered at this time.
