1931 NHL Playoffs
Round 1
The first ever all
New York series takes place. It’s just a small two game total goal affair, but that’s pretty cool.
Charlie Conacher strains his groin in game one, and will miss 3 weeks. Huge blow to the
Rangers, but they still manage to win game two, and advance without their star. They will take on the
Detroit Falcons who did a number on the
Habs 9-5.
Round 2
No
Charlie Conacher, no problem. After losing
Conacher, the
Rangers eliminated the
Americans, and the
Falcons.
Cecil Dillon,
Bun Cook and rookie
Gus Marker each stepped up to record a point a game against
Detroit to advance the
Rangers to their first Stanley Cup!
In one of the biggest upsets in league history, the
Quakers beat the
Maroons in 5 games!
Philly won game 4 in OT on a goal by
Irv Frew, and got the game 5 shutout from
Clint Benedict, who we all remember from his Stanley Cup performance with
Pittsburgh a few years ago.
Benedict was actually the backup all year, and has taken over the starters job in the playoffs!
