Farel, Nimya and Iona moved back to Massachusetts after his retirement, purchasing a small house in Provincetown. Despite the two of them nearing their 40s, Farel was happy to let his wife choose the direction of their life for a while.
They grew up a happy family. Farel took a part-time job with the Provincetown Sailors, a team in the MACTIBL league where he had first found his start. Nimya set up her own musical tutor business and became a patron of the Cape Code Summer Music Festival. Iona, for her part, grew up to be a talented catcher in softball and even played professionally for a few years before settling down to be a sportswriter.

Farel didn’t make the Hall of Fame but he is remembered as a kind-hearted player with a genuine love for the game and its fans.
