This will be Duque's 2nd start this season. In his 1st, he allowed 3 runs in 7 IP and with 2 BB and 10 SO.

Gaspar had a no decision last time out, but is 3-0 in his last 5 starts with a 2.72 ERA and 35 SO in 36.1 IP.

Roberto Gil bounces a 2-2 pitch up the middle for a hit. Ernie McGuire lines a hit to center. Ed Gladney strikes out looking. Ricky Rodriguez up and they pull off a double steal... Rodriguez grounds out to short and Gil scores. 1 to 0, Royals. Tony Olson up and a wild pitch sends McGuire to 3rd. Olson swings at a 3-0 pitch and doubles to left... 2 to 0, Royals. Mitch Gingrich swings at the first pitch and grounds out to 3rd.

Top of the Third:

With 1 out, Paul Bouvet gets our first hit of the game, a triple to left center! Dave Lesley grounds out to 2nd and Bouvet scores. 2 to 1, Royals.

Top of the Fourth:

With 1 out, Woody Griesbach lines a hit to right and Jeff Schottler draws a walk. With Tod Schreck up, a wild pitch moves the runners up. They then decide to walk Schreck intentionally. P Angel Gaspar strikes out. 2 down. Paul Bouvet lines one hard to center, but Mitch Gingrich catches it....

Top of the Fifth:
With 1 out, Larry Sinchak grounds a hit up the middle and Jeff Austin triples to left center! 2 to 2, tie game! Tony Casarez swings at the first pitch and grounds out to short, but Austin scores. 3 to 2, Beavers!

Top of the Seventh:
Larry Sinchak lines a hit to left. Jeff Austin grounds into a force at 2nd, 4-6. Tony Casarez doubles to left center. They walk Woody Griesbach intentionally, our sixth walk of the game, two of them intentional. Jeff Schottler swings at the first pitch and lines a hit to center! Austin scores and Casarez heads home and beats the throw! 5 to 2, Beavers! P Jesus Duque hits the showers. New Pitcher: Bob Cornell (31-R) with a 3.67 ERA in 41.2 IP. PH Bob Draper (23-L) and P Angel Gaspar both strike out...

Bottom of the Seventh:
Phil Parker is in to catch. Tim Pierce and Frank Birch both single and the runners are at 1st and 3rd with no outs. The Bullpen is up. PH Randy Schmitt (26-L) grounds one to 1st and Jeff Austin throws to 2nd to get a force out and maybe start a double play, but the ball does not go to 2nd, but to left field for an error and Pierce scores... 5 to 3, Beavers. Roberto Gil grounds another one to 1st and, undeterred by his previous error, Austin again throws to 2nd, and this time gets the out, 3-6!. Birch goes to 3rd. P Angel Gaspar will be allowed to pitch to righty Ernie McGuire and we will bring in a reliever to face Ed Gladney, a lefty. McGuire homers to left center.... 3 runs score and it is 6 to 5, Royals.... Call to the Bullpen: Lou Hertzberg (30-L). He gets Gladney out, gives up a single to Ricky Rodriguez and gets Tony Olson to ground out to short.

Top of the Eighth:

New Pitcher: Rich Kinney (33-R) with a 3.63 ERA in 57 IP. Paul Bouvet leads off with a hit. Dave Lesley tries to bunt him over and misses twice and then ends up taking a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Larry Sinchak flies out to center and Bouvet tags up and makes it to 3rd just ahead of the throw. Jeff Austin takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4 to load the bases up. Tony Casarez takes a 3-2 pitch for our ninth walk of the game and forces in a run to tie it up at 6 apiece! Woody Griesbach takes a 3-2 pitch, but strikes out... 2 down. Jeff Schottler swings at the first pitch and lines out to SS Alejandro Prieto (27-S).

New Pitcher: Jack Rose (30-R), their closer with a 1.77 ERA. 16 SV with 5 of them against us. We go down 1-2-3....

New Pitcher: Don Schmidt (27-R). Alejandro Prieto leads off with a double to left center... 2B John Brockman (31-L) strikes out. Ernie McGuire, who hit the home run to give them a lead and is now playing at 1st, flies out to left. Ed Gladney strikes out looking!!!

With 1 out, Omar Flores lines a hit to left. With 2 out, Tony Casarez is up and P Reggie Mack tries to pick off Flores at 1st, but throws the ball way for an error. They then walk Casarez intentionally. Woody Griesbach singles to right and Flores scores! 7 to 6, Beavers! Jeff Schottler grounds out to short, Alejandro Prieto making a great stop.

Bottom of the Thirteenth:
Jorge Reyna (32-R) is ready in the Pen. Ricky Rodriguez strikes out! Lefty Tony Olson, the reason we let Dowdell stay in the game, takes a 3-2 pitch for ball 4. Call to the Pen: Jorge Reyna. Mitch Gingrich strikes out! C Jose Muniz (28-R) strikes out and THIS Ball Game Belongs to the Beavers!!

LHP Lou Hertzberg went 1.2 scoreless innings and allowed 1 hit.
RHP Don Schmidt went 3 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 3.
LHP Mitch Dowdell (W 2-2) went 1.1 scoreless innings, allowed 1 walk and struck out 2.

2B Paul Bouvet had 3 hits with his 10th triple as a Beaver and 12th overall and scored 2 runs. The only player to ever hit more triples in a whole season (and we are at the halfway point this year) is Bouvet himself, who had 15 last year. 3B Larry Sinchak had 3 hits and scored a run. PH/3B Omar Flores went 1 for 2 and scored the go ahead run in the 13th. 1B Jeff Austin went 1 for 6 with a triple and a walk, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. LF Tony Casarez hit a double and drew 3 walks (1 INT), scored a run and had 2 RBI. RF Woody Griesbach had 2 hits and 3 walks (1 INT), stole a base and knocked in the go ahead run in the 13th. CF Jeff Schottler had a hit and a walk and 2 RBI.

For the Royals, 2B/1B Ernie McGuire had 2 hits with his 4th home run of the season, stole a base, scored 2 runs and had 3 RBI.
