In the top of the first, Rudi hit a solo home run.

In the bottom of the first, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Harrah then drew a walk to tie the game. Tovar then drew a walk to give the Rangers the lead. Nelson then grounded back to Blue who threw home to get the force on Burroughs for the second out. Spencer then flew out to center to end the inning.

After three: Texas 2 Oakland 1.

In the top of the sixth, Jackson tied the game with a solo home run. Green would later bring one home with a single to give the Athletics the lead. Fosse followed with a two run triple. The next batter, North, got an RBI double. Nine men batted for Oakland in the inning.

After six: Oakland 6 Texas 2.

In the top of the seventh, the Athletics had runners at first and second with one out and Jim Merritt took the mound for the Rangers and kept the runners from scoring.

In the bottom of the eighth, Nelson scored from third when Sundberg hit into the 4-6-3. After a two out single, Rollie Fingers took the mound and got the final out of the inning.

Final score: Oakland 6 Texas 3.
