The San Diego Padres are in town to play a 4 game series through the weekend. They just split a pair of games in Seattle. We won 3 of 4 at their place, May 16-19. They are 11th in scoring in the PCL with 3.86 runs per game (Portland is up to 15th with 3.57!). Their hitters are hitting a healthy .260, but are 2nd to last in HR with 33 (Hollywood has 32). The Padres are 2nd in fewest runs allowed with 3.25 per game (Portland is 8th with 3.95). Their hitters have only hit 33 HR, but their pitchers have only allowed 33, 2nd fewest in the League (KC has allowed 31). Their run differential is +40; ours is -25.

San Diego Padres (32-33 .492 11.5 GB tied for 4th place in the PCL West) at
Portland Beavers (28-37 .431 15.5 GB in 7th place in the PCL West)

SD: Tony Vargas (28-R 5-5 3.72) vs. POR: Frank Flores (23-R 6-3 2.64) Rookie

We have not faced Vargas this season. He was 2-0 in 3 starts against us last year.

Flores had not lost a game since May 4. He is 3-0 in his last 7 starts. He gave up 4 runs in 6.2 IP last time out, but he got a no decision and we won the game.
