Hot Start Continues for Yankees

Full Bosxscore and Standings

The New York Yankees downed the Boston Red Sox, 7-3, at Fenway Park. The Yankees were led by Joe Pepitone, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.

Al Downing, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 3-0. The Yankees, now 7-3, have been on a roll in the early going. It could have been a different outcome for New York, had it not been for Horace Clarke, the 26-year old second baseman . Clarke contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put New York up, 5-2.

In postgame comments to the New York Gazette, Clarke said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

The Red Sox fall to 5-6 on the season and trail the first place Yankees and Orioles by 2.5 games
