I think you can do this by changing the Historical ID value on the Team Page whenever a franchise relocates...
So for the '53 season you'd need to change the Braves' ID from BSN to ML1 so Braves players imported to Boston...
For '54 season you'd need to change the Browns' ID from SLA to BAL so the Orioles players import to the Browns...
For '55 you'd need to change the A's ID from PHA to KC1... For '58 you'd change the Dodgers from BRO to LAN and the Giants from NY1 to SFN, and so forth, including changing the Braves again, in '66, from ML1 to ATL...
This field may or may not be the same field that shows up as the team abbreviation throughout the game. I'm not in front of the game right now so I can't be sure (and mine is OOTP v12 so this may or may not apply to v14). If so, you could get around this by remembering to change your abbreviations just before new players import, and then when that process is complete, you can rename your abbreviations to what makes sense...
