In the bottom of the fourth, Jackson tied the game on a throwing error by Billings as he was trying to steal third. Epstein then gave the Athletics the lead with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the fifth, Maddox struck out for the third time in the game.

In the bottom of the fifth, Broberg struck out the side.

In the top of the sixth, Billings tied the game with an RBI single. Ford followed with a single to load the bases with two out. Biittner then grounded to third to retire the side.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Athletics loaded the bases with nobody out. Broberg hit Bando with a pitch to force in the go-ahead run. Epstein flew to center for the first out. Rudi then brought two home with a single.

After six: Oakland 5 Texas 2.

Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Nelson scored from third when Howard grounded to third.

With bases empty and one out in the top of the ninth, Rollie Fingers took the mound for the Athletics. With a runner at second and two out, Maddox grounded to second to end the game.

Final score: Oakland 5 Texas 3.
