Today is the third game in the season-opening series in Texas between the Rangers and the Kansas City Royals. The Rangers have scored in only one of the previous eighteen innings of this series.

The Rangers signed pitching coach Mike Redington to a 1-year, $5,500 per year contract.

In the bottom of the first, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Billings then brought all three home with a double for the Rangers first lead of the season.

In the top of the second, Rojas brought home a pair with a double. Patek then tied the game with an RBI single. A throwing error by Billings brought in the go-ahead run as the Royals batted around the order.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Rangers loaded the bases with two out. Nelson flew out to left to end the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Mike Paul took the mound for the Rangers with a runner on first and two out and he struck out Schaal to retire the side.

In the top of the sixth, Kirkpatrick hit an RBI double.

After six: Kansas City 5 Texas. 3.

Ted W Abernathy took the mound for the Royals in the bottom of the seventh.

In the top of the eighth, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers with a runner on first and nobody out. And he kept the deficit at two.

Tom Burgmeier came in to pitch for the Royals in the bottom of the eighth.

Jim Panther took the mound for the Rangers in the top of the ninth. Mayberry hit an RBI single.

The Rangers committed four errors in the loss.

Final score: Kansas City 6 Texas 3.
