Tonight is the rubber match in the series in California between the Rangers and the Angels. The Rangers have lost eight of their last ten. The Angels have won five of their last seven.

The Montreal Expos have been mathematically eliminated from the post season.

In the top of the second, the Rangers loaded the bases with nobody out. Harrah drew a walk on four pitches to force in the game's first run. On a full count pitch, Kubiak took ball four and another run came home. Bosman went down swinging for the first out. Maddox then drew a full count walk to bring in another run. Nelson swung and missed for strike three and there were two out. Ryan then struck out Wynn to retire the side. Nine men came to bat for the Rangers in the inning.

In the top of the third, the Rangers loaded the bases with one out. Ryan then struck out Kubiak and Bosman to retire the side.

Bosman was perfect through three.

After three: Texas 3 California 0.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Pinson ended the perfect game with a single.

After six: Texas 3 California 0.

Rich Gossage took the mound for the Angels in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stanton put the Angels on the board with a run-scoring single that gave him 50 RBI on the season. Alomar addedan RBI single to make it a one-run game. Kosco tried to tie the game when he singled but Wynn threw Stanton out at home as he was trying to score from second.

In the top of the eighth, with runners at first and second and nobody out, Tom Norton took the mound for the Angels. Maddox greeted him with an RBI single. Burroughs added his own run-scoring single.

In the bottom of the eighth, Paul Lindblad took the mound for the Rangers. Pinson got an RBI single.

In the top of the ninth, Mike Garman took the mound for the Angels.

Lindblad finished it off with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Ryan got the loss despite striking out 12.

Final score: Texas 5 California 3.
