Top Performers of the Week.

Pittsburgh Pirates SP Bob Moose allowed 7 hits and struck out 9 in a complete game 4-1 win over the Cubs. The 21 year old is now 8-2 with 4 saves, a 1.30 ERA in 18 games including 11 starts. For his career, Moose is 17-14 with 7 saves, a 2.27 ERA in 58 games including 35 starts.

Philadelphia RF Johnny Callison will miss up to 3 weeks. The 30 year old is now hitting .208 with 8 HRs and 30 RBIs in 70 games. In 1964 while the Phillies were in the midst of blowing a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 games left, on September 29th Callison did not start because of a high fever and the chills. Callison did PH late in the game and against MLB rules was allowed to wear his jacket to run the base paths due to his high fever. The Phillies ended falling behind the Cardinals by 1 game that season.

The San Diego Padres released SP Johnny Podres today. The 36 year old was signed as a free agent by the Padres for the 1969 season. He last pitched in the MLB for the Tigers in 1967 and was released. Podres was 1-6 with a 8.39 ERA in 8 starts this season. For his career, Podres is 144-116 with 11 saves, a 3.75 ERA in 431 games including 339 starts. Podres was the 1955 World Series MVP posted a shutout in game 7 over the Yankees for the Brooklyn Dodgers. This was the first time in MLB History a World Series MVP was awarded.
