Walkers news: May 16 -- Cedar Rapids 3, St. Louis 2

Record: 17-20, 4th (three-way/tie), 6.5 GB Springfield
Dominic Smith connected on a two-out RBI double off Grant Dayton with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to snap a 2-2 tie and help Cedar Rapids to a 3-2 win over St. Louis at Shibe Park (1939).
With the win, the Golden Grapplers took two of three games from the River Walkers.
Victor Robles got things going with a two-out single off Dayton.
Yoan Moncado then drew a walk, bringing Smith to the plate.
He smacked the first pitch he saw for a double into center field.
Dayton also left the game after Smith's at-bat. He's expected to be out at least five games with a sore back.
Cedar Rapids scored single runs in the third and sixth innings off St. Louis starting pitcher Aaron Nola.
A Nick Williams solo homer in the sixth made it 2-0.
But the River Walkers responded with single tallies in the seventh and eighth to tie it.

Andrew Benintendi hit a solo shot of the Grapplers' Taylor Bashlor to even it at 2.
Cedar Rapids starter Chris Archer went five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits while striking out six and walking one.
Thomas Hackmeier, Ben Bowden and Taylor Bashlor all worked an inning apiece.
Danny Grigg got the first out of the ninth. The other two were handled by Johnny Hellwig, who notched his second save.
